Headboard Bench

The Final Product!

Okay so I won't say this was an easy job, but the satisfaction from this finished project is immense! I used a Tremclad oil based paint. It makes the finish hard and beautifully shiny. Although it's clean up is harder than with latex and the drying time is 24 hours between coats and sometimes longer, the finish is immaculate and long lasting. So worth the work.

This old double footboard was headed for the fire pit along with it's matching headboard. Such a shame for this beautiful work of art. I just couldn't let it go, so I got on my trusty pinterest page and found a new life for it. My father is an untapped source of woodworking knowledge. With 30 + years of working with wood, has helped make him an expert at building something from nothing. So of course he jumped at the chance to help design and create this piece. He pulled out a pencil and I pulled out my pinterest and together we started... :D

Creating the seat support was the first step.

The seat: a simple pine pallet dismantled and cut to size for the bench seat...

Now for the front decorative Piece and the final sanding...

Almost there!

Because it will be painted we need to rough up the old paint and sand the pallet wood seat. Using a palm sander it's easy enough, just takes time. And don't forget all those little spindles!

The Final Product! The matching footboard is next, to finish the set.
